Our History

It was 120 years ago that Hyman Freedman began making seat cushions for horse-drawn buggies. He knew his craft well, and was awarded a diploma of honorable mention for the 1892 Columbian Exposition in Chicago for his skill in upholstery. A century later, the tradition continues. Freedman Seating Company is still a family owned-and-operated business committed to meeting the highest standards in the industry. Today FSC employs over 500 people and is one of the nation's largest specialty seating manufacturers.

Markets and Products

We manufacture seats and seating related products for many different applications. It is easiest to divide FSC's products line into three categories: 1) bus seating, 2) rail seating and 3) truck, specialty, and commercial vehicle seating. FSC has become a leading supplier to the U.S. domestic bus and transportation industry. Manufacturing seats for buses, FSC supplies the major OEMs, over 250 bus distributors, the federal government, and many states and municipalities. The family of FSC bus seats includes products for small and mid-size coaches, paratransit vans and buses, public transit buses, and private bus operators. Our success in the seating market comes from our ability to provide a total value-added seating package to our customers: innovative designs, superior customer service, proven quality products, and timely delivery.
